REBECCA TODD
For this exhibition 'You've Got Everything Now', I focused on what that title meant to me. Abundance was a key thing for me, having so much of something whether it be physical material goods to feeling secure in yourself psychologically. However, the notion of that even though you have everything, it can quickly disappear too. Nothing is guaranteed. I work with thread and installations and have brought this into portraying an abundance of something. The spherical shape of the works conveys a sense of the abundance carrying on forever. The threads are in various colours to show the plentiful nature of having everything now, yet the work looks like it could fall apart at any moment if there were a slight disturbance to the structure. It acts as a visual metaphor to having everything yet it could vanish at any time. I used wool and cotton thread to make the pieces, as wool on its own can be seen as flimsy yet when it is put together with multiple strands it becomes something that appears to be more solid and safe. |
