CLAIRE SLADE
“White Picket Fences” My work is influenced by one key phrase in the song "You've got everything now" by the Smiths. During the melodramatic song, the phrase "I never did like your face" emerged and is used as the main concept in the work. The work focuses and is built on the concept of a white picket fence American society, and how as a strong nation they continue to claw and want more. The use of film clips in the work will focus on pop culture symbols of the United States, such as the nation’s media, movies, television shows, etc. In turn, a video piece is created with clips saying "I never did like your face," with obvious imagery and symbolism which represents the white picket fence America and they concept of the country having "everything". Andy Warhol’s use of symbolism in his work was an influence to “White Picket Fences.” Email: [email protected] Blog: http://claireelizabethslade.blogspot.com/ |
